No STD treatment is over-the counter!

April is STD Awareness Month. I will try to make some appropriately themed posts for the rest of the month to celebrate as the case may be!!!

Just a quick update to the wise....There is no existing sexually transmitted infection (STI/STD) treatment that doesnt require prescription medication. Anything over the counter (OTC) that may claim to be STI treatment may be wasting your time and money and putting you and your partner in danger. The FDA has recently expressed concern over a growing market for these products:

1. If you suspect you have an STD or have been exposed to one, seek a doctors care.
2. STD testing can be anonymous if requested.
3. Remember when you sleep with someone with no protection, you are exposed to everyone they have had unprotected sex with.
4. There is no such thing as someone "looking clean"
5. If given a prescription for treatment for a confirmed or suspected sexually transmitted infection, fill it and take it in its entirety.
6. If diagnosed with an STI, inform any partners you have so that they can get treated as well.
7. Use protection. Condoms are expensive but they are cheaper than babies, STI treatment, hospitalization, HIV drugs and death.
